The tool takes your source image and produces a favicon-sized output that keeps the essential shape recognisable at the tiny dimensions where it will actually be displayed.
Favicon generation runs entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. When you load a source image, the tool draws it onto an off-screen canvas scaled down to favicon dimensions, preserving the centre of the image and applying image smoothing so the reduction stays clean. The canvas is then re-encoded as a PNG-based favicon file and downloaded.
Your image never leaves your device — there is no upload, no server-side processing, and no copy retained after download. The original file on your device is never modified; the tool produces a new favicon file you download alongside it. Because the output is generated from your source locally, you can try several source images and keep the one that looks best at small size.
To install the favicon, place the file in your website root directory and add a link tag inside the head of your HTML pointing to the file. For a complete icon set that covers retina tabs and mobile home screens, generate several sizes and declare them with multiple link tags. Start from a square source image for the cleanest result.
