Convert Image

The Convert Image tool changes an image from one format to another — for example PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, or to WebP. Conversion runs in your browser, so your image stays private.

Different formats suit different needs: PNG keeps transparency, JPG is small for photos, and WebP offers modern efficiency. Converting lets you match the right format to the job.

Choosing the right format matters because each one is optimised for a different kind of content. JPG compresses photographs efficiently and is supported everywhere, but it loses detail every time it is saved and cannot hold transparency. PNG is lossless and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it the right choice for logos, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges. WebP matches JPG quality at smaller file sizes and is now supported by all modern browsers.

Converting between formats is a routine step in any web or design workflow: a PNG screenshot that needs to go in an email becomes a smaller JPG, a JPG photo that needs a transparent background becomes a PNG, and any image destined for a modern website can become a WebP to cut page weight. This tool handles all three conversions locally so you never upload sensitive screenshots or design assets.

Format conversion runs entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API and the native image encoders for JPG, PNG, and WebP. When you load an image and pick a target format, the tool draws the source onto an off-screen canvas to decode it into raw pixels, then re-encodes those pixels in the destination format using the browser built-in encoder. No external library or server is involved.

Your image never leaves your device — there is no upload, no server-side processing, and no copy retained after download. Because the conversion goes through a raw-pixel stage, any metadata that is format-specific (such as EXIF camera data in a JPG) is not carried across to the new format. Transparency is preserved only when both the source and the target format support it; converting a transparent PNG to JPG fills the transparent areas with a solid colour.

For a batch of images, convert each one individually for the most reliable result. If you also need to shrink the file, follow the conversion with the Compress Image tool, and if you need different dimensions, use Resize Image first.
