HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones running iOS 11 and later because it halves the file size of an equivalent JPG at the same quality. The trade-off is compatibility: HEIC is not recognised by many Windows PCs, older image editors, content management systems, and web upload forms, which refuse the file or display it as a broken icon.
Converting HEIC to JPG the moment you move photos off your iPhone avoids every one of those compatibility problems. The JPG output opens in every operating system, browser, and editing tool, and uploads to every web form, so you can share and edit your photos anywhere without explaining what a HEIC file is.
Conversion runs entirely in your browser. When you load HEIC photos, the tool uses the heic2any library to decode the HEIC container — which stores image data in the High Efficiency Image Coding format — into raw pixels, then re-encodes those pixels as a standard JPG using the browser native image encoder. The decoding and encoding both happen on your device CPU.
Your photos never leave your device — there is no upload, no server-side conversion, and no copy retained after download. The original HEIC files on your device are never modified; the tool produces new JPG files you download alongside them. Because HEIC decoding is computationally heavier than JPG, very large batches take a few seconds per image on slower hardware, but there is no artificial file-size cap from Convert26.
You can select multiple HEIC photos and the tool converts each one to a separate JPG so you can download them all.
