PDF is the standard format for contracts, resumes, and official documents because it locks in the layout. Converting Word to PDF ensures recipients see exactly what you intended, regardless of their software or fonts.
Word documents are built to be edited, which is exactly why they are risky to share as final deliverables: a recipient with different fonts, a different version of Office, or a different operating system can see shifted line breaks, missing characters, or a rearranged layout. Converting to PDF freezes the document so what you see is precisely what everyone else receives.
The conversion preserves the document reading order, headings, paragraphs, and inline images so the PDF reads naturally on screen and in print. Hyperlinks remain clickable, and page breaks fall where the author placed them, making the output suitable for contracts, resumes, reports, and any document that must look the same everywhere it is opened.
Conversion runs in the browser using client-side JavaScript that parses the .docx Open XML package — a ZIP archive of XML parts — and renders its content to a fixed-layout PDF. The tool reads the document part, walks the paragraph and run structure, maps Word styles to PDF text objects, and writes the result with pdf-lib, all without sending the file to a server.
Because the source is read locally, your document never leaves your device — there is no upload, no temporary cloud copy, and no conversion queue. The renderer preserves text, headings, lists, and inline images; complex elements such as floating text boxes or embedded charts may simplify in the output, which is expected for any free client-side Word to PDF workflow. Always review the PDF before sharing legally sensitive material.
Both legacy .doc and modern .docx files are accepted. For very large or heavily formatted documents, processing takes longer on slower hardware but there is no artificial file-size cap from Convert26. To combine several Word files into a single PDF, convert each one separately and then use Merge PDF. To reverse the direction — turning a PDF back into editable text — use the PDF to Word tool.
